Different Functions of Prime Movers
Agonist is a classification that is used to describe a muscle that causes several movements that occurs through the process of contraction. This is a term typically known for skeletal muscles. Agonists are also known as “prive movers” as they are primarily responsible for performing a specific movement. There are mainly four types of skeletal muscles:

- Synergist Muscles
- Prime Movers
- Fixator Muscles

Prime mover muscle is a larger muscle in your body and include the muscle groups like hamstrings that is the upper thigh and the quads. It also includes lats that is the back of your body, pecs that is the chest of your body, triceps and biceps that is the arms of your body. Prime movers connect to our bones and create movement around joints. For instance, your biceps connect the upper arm to your lower arm by crossing the elbow joint, and when the biceps contract it brings your lower arm closure to the upper arm. Since the movement is created by the biceps contraction, it is considered as the prime mover.
Prime mover muscle play important role in your body. Any training program that includes workouts or exercises will help you to improve these muscles. Prime movers have significant functions. These are thee primary ones that execute a specific function. In the elbow flexion, prime mover is the bicep brachii muscle. Thus, the prime mover of the elbow flexion is the biceps brachii. Just as like the other movements, prime mover executes the desired function of the various joints of our body. The another example is the front bulk of the leg that is called quadriceps muscle. This muscle group helps us to perform the extension of the knee. Thus, the prime mover of the extension of the knee is the quadriceps muscle.
This muscle group is readily seen in our body. They are located in the superficial areas of the body. For those people who are not at all medically oriented, still this muscle group is wee known to them. Body builders want to develop prime movers. For that you have to select proper exercise.
